So, we’ve been getting into photography a bit more and more. A newer form of editing photos is HDR. It’s been around for a while, but it’s really starting to pick up steam. I enjoy it and there are a lot of people out there that can make some pretty sweet photos look quite artistic, but I think that I am going to stay more on the realistic side of the technology. Anyway, the other day I dabbled in it and the result is below. This is my first HDR photo and will definitely not be my last.
The way it works is you take 3 or more shots of the same scene using different exposure settings. Typically -2, 0, 2 f stops apart. On DSLR cameras you will typically have an automatic bracketing option that will do this for you. Once you get the three images you use a computer program like Photoshop or Photomatix to create the HDR image using the three images. I won’t bore you to death with how to do it and what works best. I’ll simply point you to the tutorial I read and let you have at it.

I’m alive! It’s a good feeling. I have never been so tired in my life! If I sit still for more than a minute my eyes go closed and I zonk out. So far I just feel mild discomfort in my tomach (as Gabe calls it), but when the anestesia wears off I’ll be feeling it. Now that you know I’ve survived, I think it’s time to eat some more crackers. Besides, I can barely keep my eyes from going crossed. Take care.

I’m now hooked up to the IV and am waiting for the good stuff. The hospital doctor just got done assuring me that I’m not going to die, but could. I don’t know how I should take that, but will assume the best. Sixty minutes till the showdown. I’ll let you know how cranky I am when I get out. Till then, think happy thoughts. I will be.

The doc decided that putting me on the chopping block is required. Surgery is scheduled today at 4:00 pm. Wish me luck! Right now I’m sitting in my pre-op room listening to the nurses talk about my demise.

So, I woke up this morning and my stomach felt like it does when your hungry and need to eat something. You know, that dullish pain that turns sharp in a second. I did what any normal guy would do. Eat some cereal and head to work.
As I’m at work the pain gets a bit stronger and stronger. To the point that I no longer want to be at work (well… I never want to be at work, but you know what I mean). The interesting thing about it was that it was an abdominal pain that I had never had before. I text messaged my wife and told her I was on my way home and asked her if she could get me a doctors appointment. She tried to help me diagnose my symptoms and I kept shooting down all the ailments she shot at me. I told her I bet my appendix exploded.
Well, I wasn’t too far off. Nothing exploded, but at my doctor appointment she pushed on my stomach and I wailed. She said, “Appendix”. She then ordered a CT scan and blood work and urine samples. So, here I am sitting in the lobby of the hospital after I got my cat scanned writing this up. Some of you may be wondering why I’m still at the hospital. Well, because I may have to have yet another CT scan. The reasoning; because to see issues with the appendix, you have to drink a liquid and wait two hours. However, this liquid impairs the ability to find a kidney stone (one of my other possible ailments). So, they scanned me once to see if they could see both and if they can’t see anything with my appendix I have to drink the serum and get another scan. It’s as I always say, “Scan me once, shame on you. Scan me twice, shame on you again.” If they do find something wrong with my appendix, I may need to go right over and get it taken out. I’m tickled pink with excitement! Let’s see what the pictures tell us.

We had the privilege this past weekend to get away and leave the kids with my (Chad’s) parents. We stayed at a hotel downtown Minneapolis and took in the big city. We figured we’d get a lot of rest because the kids wouldn’t be with us, but when you make decisions like staying at your friends house till almost 3 in the morning on Friday it kinda set’s you up to be a bit groggy. We did, however, get to sleep in until almost noon. Haven’t been able to do that for years. Overall it was a great time of just being with my wife and enjoying fine cuisine. The News Room on the corner of Nicollet and 10th has great food, we definitely recommend it. We walked up and down Nicollet Mall, stopped in for a Starbucks coffee and ventured into Macy’s to see their “Flororama” spring display. After all that we tried to navigate the skyway… good luck. Our last stop was the fresh made candy store. We picked up some of our favorites and grabbed some yogurt covered pretzels for the boys. It was a splendid weekend. The only thing bad about it was that it ended and I had to go back to work. At least there are plenty more weekends ahead for us to enjoy.

Some of you may have noticed lately that we just “disappeared”, right off of the face of Facebook. Well, we were booted for “spamming”. Well, Tamara wasn’t “spamming”, just I was. I don’t believe it was spamming though. Oh well, the result was our account being shut down and the action not reversible. I’m just trying to get a free xbox, good grief. Anyway, we may resurface sometime in the future. I say “may” because of the recent privacy issues that have been raised about Facebook. In case you are unaware, read this article. It is pretty informative. In the event that we don’t re-join Facebook, you can always contact us the old fashion way… email.

We have added pictures from this past weekend to the gallery. We met up with Ann and Ben and the kids (Tamara’s sister’s family). We caught up with them at Ridgedale Mall and let the kids have a hay day in the play area. From the looks of the pictures I think they had a good time. It was good to see Ann and Ben again and the kids. It’s been too long with all the sicknesses going around and getting in the way. You can view the pictures by clicking here, or clicking on the Gallery button in the upper right hand corner of the web page.
